I initially started with a personal trainer to ensure that I made it to the gym to work out on a regular basis. By making that appointment, it went else. The way I figured it, the trainer didn’t even have to be there. As long as I thought someone was expecting me to be there, I would make it to the gym. However, I quickly discovered that there my programme. I am given encouragement and affirmation of my achievements. I am gently, but firmly, reined in when I am tempted to push beyond my physical limitations. My horizons have been broadened in terms of activities and services available to keep my aging, somewhat arthritic body running as smoothly as installation, discussed the best way to introduce a dog to a treadmill, found out about deals at the grocery stores, been given new recipes to try, shared the good and bad things that have happened in life, and been introduced to Bubba, my new imaginary henchman, who I am threatened with when I am not doing as instructed. (A trainer is all seeing and all knowing! - or at least, so I am told.) As for results, I am over fifty pounds lighter and significantly stronger and more flexible. I am now confident that, despite the arthritis, I can continue to be physically active. This is extremely important to me and I doubt that I would have reached this happy point on my own. Without support to get me over some of the hurdles I encountered in my journey, I would probably be home, lying on my couch, eating bonbons, and getting my exercise by letting my fingers do the walking through the yellow pages looking for a professional wheel chair pusher! Maybe I exaggerate just a tad, but the point remains that having a personal trainer is one of the best investments I have ever made.

For the hour of my workout, it’s all about me- for a change. Working full time, married, two kids that are in several sports doesn't leave much time for a workout but I have realized the benefits that I get and I make time. (Such benefits as higher energy, more confidence, happier, sleep better, oh, and I’ve lost over 20 pounds!) Having one-on-one with a professional personal trainer has provided me with the tools to achieve my goals of becoming an active, stronger person, and doing so safely. The trainer customizes my work out program to me with my strengths and weaknesses in mind. The program is changed periodically to keep me interested and motivated and for the past two years they have done an amazing job of it. I foresee Bryan and I, happily, growing old together. I, without hesitation, would recommend Bryan to anyone.

Remitting relapsing MS (occasional Flare-ups with strong possibility of full recovery) was manageable however three years and one child later, the secondary progressive diagnosis was extremely frightening. With two extremely active little boys, a very busy husband and being a full-time employee, there was no way I could let this illness get the best of me. It was time to put any of the “I feel sorry for myself” attitude I may have had away and fight! Bryan was offering a Pilates class. Everyone knows the importance of exercise but the importance is even greater when you need to maintain the healthiest lifestyle you can. I gave it a shot. I absolutely loved Pilates. I could do all the exercises at my own pace and what I wasn’t able to do, Bryan was able to modify for me for maximum benefit. The decision to hire a personal trainer was hard. How could I find an additional two hours a week for just me? How could I afford/justify the additional expense? I belonged to gyms in the past and for my situation, they just weren't working they were extremely difficult to get to and once there, the obstacles – stairs, heat, improper technique, etc. I knew Bryan was a personal trainer and decided to give him a month to see what we could do together. I’ve now been training with Bryan for just shy of 1 year! We have gone from 2 minutes on the treadmill (toe drop) to 30 minutes – and now starting to run (okay gallop), 5 minutes on the dreaded stair-master to 35 minutes, squats holding on a bar (wasn’t able to pull myself back up) to standing squats with the ball. My energy and muscle strength have increased tremendously. After six months with Bryan, a visit to my neurologist confirmed everything I had already suspected. He was extremely pleased with the decreased progression and the new strength I had obtained. Whenever I’m feeling a bit discouraged or lazy I just remember his comment “whatever you’ve been doing keep it up!” Just remember – you are no good to anyone if you are no good to yourself.
